Homeopathic remedy & fever
This is not a smart alecky question at all. It is just ignorance as I just don't know that much about homeopathy at the moment.
If fever is the bodies way of fighting infection and you don't want to reduce it using allopathic medicine, why would you want to reduce it with homeopathic remedies?
And, for those of you who have found a good homeopath, when you or your DC get sick do you call and/or go see the homeopath for a remedy or do you treat on your own from home? If from home, how do you know which remedy to give?

Answers:
That's actually a very good question! You're right, you shouldn't be automatically reducing fevers with homeopathics, either. When my child has JUST a fever I do not give a homeopathic unless she is absolutely miserable. The only time I would prescribe for the fever is if it accompanied by many other symptoms and then I would take each and every symptom into consideration when prescribing a remedy.
As far as how I prescribe - after an online homeopathy course and several years of using my family as guinea pigs, I've gotten good enough that I don't have to call the homeopath for acute illnesses. I only use her now for chronic problems (which should never be handled by an amateur).

which online course did you take? I'd love to learn more.

I'm in the learning stages of homeopathy so I use the remedy finder at abchomeopathy.com :thumb

This is the class I took:

It looks like she hasn't started a new class recently, though. Maybe there's one coming up. The class was awesome! Very detailed and thorough on everything from the history of homeopathy to prescribing remedies.
abchomeopathy is alright, but the problem that I've had with it is that it's just not detailed enough. When prescribing remedies, a person's general and emotional profile (when they are WELL) is of vital importance. As far as I've seen at abchomeopathy, they only consider the symptoms of the person's current illness. That's just not enough to find the correct remedy usually. For me a good book is much more helpful than that website. I like The Complete Homeopathy Handbook by Miranda Castro (it's the one I used with the online course).

I'm glad you liked that class. I found out about it just after the april class started so I missed out. She's doingone this fall I'd like to get in on. I'm on her yahoo group.

To answer the OPs question...
I fully acknowledge that a fever is mostly a good thing. yet I have fever reducers in my arsenal for the following circumstances:
DS is having a headache from the fever that is really interrupting his sleep/appetite. IMO, fluid intake, some kind of energy, and adequate rest is more important than the extra 3 degrees.
We have something big planned. I know, not very NFL, but if we've been planning a vacation for 3 and a half months or ds has some cousins coming over who he only sees once or twice a year and he's feeling pretty miserable, I'd be inclined to give him something to help him out so that he can enjoy himself for that time.
Either way, it's only a dose or two, not a round the clock or preventative thing.

Well, this might sound nuts, but my version of homeopathy for fevers is hot baths. I think the chills you get when you have a fever are your body's way of begging for a little more heat to fry the bug. And nothing feels as good as long, hot bath when you're sick followed by a good, long nap. :)

My BIL has gone crunchy the last two years and he swears by a hot bath or shower. I did try it a few weeks ago when I had the flu and it seemed to help... and so did the o-sill-o-cox-see-num (I forget how to spell it, it's a miracle I can pronounce it!)

I am training in homeopathy. Homeopathic remedies if correctly prescribed for a acute fever in a child will "smooth out" a fever, not suppress it. Homeopathy is VERY against suppression. So like, the right remedy will kind of guide the body to more efficiently overcome whatever needs to be overcome, thereby making the need for fever unnecessary. According to Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy, the symptoms of an illness belong to the vital force of the body, and not to the disease entity. And the vital force, the innate healing intelligence of the body, can sometimes be a little clumsy.
So it needs a bit of guidance from the homeopathic remedy.

Aquaduct- Just curious what school you're training with. I would love to be a homeopath when my kids are older.

Well, I live in New Zealand, so knowing my school isn't going to help you. Where are you in the US? A homeopath called Will Taylor runs a good college in NY, I hear. The Devon School of homeopathy is one of the best in the world. It is in England, but you can do courses by correspendeance. They have websites....

My oldest and youngest had fevers about 2 weeks apart a couple of months ago. I treated them with high doses of vitamin C. Oldest dd last a day and the baby lasted a day and a half. Dd #1 had a fever of 104 and dd#3 had 102. dd#3 never got whatever her sisters had.
I didnt reduce the fevers but allowed the body to use the C in fighting whatever bug they had. Worked very well IMO.

Answers:
what type of C did you use? What it difficult to get them to take it?
We just got over a fever last week. I didn't treat it. It lasted 1.5 days. Maybe the C would have helped.
