TMJ--Is There Really A Cure??????
I have gone through neuromuscular dentistry with an orthotic and now crnaial sacral/maipulation work and wondering if I am wasting my time and money again. Is there a cure for TMJ or should I just try to forge on? I can barely sing a song or read outload a paragraph and my jaw starts hurting. I want this pain gone. Please help!!!

Oh mama!! :( I know how you feel! I too have TMJ.
My jaw has been in a "locked" position for about 5 years.. right before my son was born this happened when I was preggo. Its not locked all the way, I just cant open it all the way you know how you may have the open click open I have open no clicks...:gloomy:
I use to have BAD headaches that were so bad I would cry from the pain.
I on a whim went to my local chiro, I had never been to one before.
And guess what??? I dont have any pain anymore! I mean sometimes it will get a little sore but nothing like it was before!! I feel like a different person.
I go to him 1 a month or when it gets sore.

I have TMJ and have lived with it for years. I have not tried any more of the conventional orthodotics. At one point my jaw was in such bad shape that I could only open my mouth about the width of 1 finger. I had terrible headaches and was in a lot of pain. I do not know if there really is a fix all cure, but I have found that I had amasing results after taking a stretch and placement class at a dance studio. Sort of a cross between a yoga and pilates, anyways I think that the aligment of my neck really helped with loosening all the muscles in and around my jaw and than strengthening them properly.

My chiro says I need to walk about with my tip of my tounge at the room of my mouth and have my mouth slightly open like "duuuhhhhhh" type of look.:lol

You know, I had horrible TMJ up until about 2 years ago and then I began taking 5-HTP for some PPD/illness issues and it has almost resolved itself. I still get the occasional pop/pain chewing issues but not nearly as bad as it was. I was convinced I would need surgery for it just a few years ago.
Coincidentally, I just finished reading a book called 'The Mood Cure' and it actually talks about the connection between TMJ and serotonin issues (I think? I can't remember it's been a long day already :lol ) but you might want to get a copy from your library and skim it to find the stuff about TMJ.
