Dental work while nursing 16 month old/16 month old needing dental work, HELP
I'm going for a consult at a dentist next Thursday. I'm not getting anything done that day, just taking x-rays, etc....
I know for sure that I have a cavity on an old molar that's been filled numerous times before. It's the silver filling. Is it safe to get it drilled and filled again while nursing? What should I do?

Also, my dd has two slightly gray teeth. She's 16 months old and her appointment to get them looked at is in two weeks. What should I give her to keep her calm in case she does need a filling? She doesn't respond very much to valerian, kava kava, or rescue remedy (though I will try anyway). What other things can I try?

Answers:
If it is drilled out it will release a lot of mercury into your bloodstream. Some is excreted, some settles in your organs, (including your brain, where it stays for life).
Since it will be in your bloodstream, more mercury will be in your milk. How much is not known.
has links to find mercury free dentists that use a protection protocol that will greatly minimize mercury escaping.
I would encourage you not to get another mercury amalgam filling. And absolutely not for your babe if necessary.

Answers:
How do I know if it's mercury? I'm only 20.
