Well, Lydia (20 months now) is cleared for general anesthesia on Friday. She has to be at the hospital at 5:30 am for a 7:30 am appointment. :eyesroll We will be doing 5 crowns (4 strip crowns on the 4 front upper teeth and one white crown on a molar) and one white filling on another molar. Possibly one root canal on a front tooth (the worst one). Plus selants on the molars b/c her teeth have deep grooves.
I am very nervous about the general anesthesia and worry about her safety, but I know the odds are very much in her favor, which is part of what is keeping me sane at this point. :innocent
My other concern is the not nursing her at night. The anesthesiologists that work at this hospital have the right to refuse anesthesia to any patient that has nursed during the 6 hour fasting period. Some choose to let the child nurse up to 4 hours previous, other are staunch on the 6 hour policy. The won't say which doctor I will get that morning, so I guess I will have to stick pretty close to the 6 hour mark since I don't want to lie about the time and I don't want her to be refused either. :( I think she will make it ok, but I doubt she will be happy or get much sleep.
I just keep thinking about her "new teeth." It will be nice to know that the decay is finally gone and that our fight will no longer be an uphill battle. With our other prevantative measures, I think we have the potential of very little other dental work in the future.
I will post after Friday to let everyone know how she did. Please keep us in you thoughts and prayers. And thanks to everyone who has taken the time to help us figure out how to slow the decay, whether through information or encouragement. Your involvement has been vital to getting Lydia to this point. :love
