Cod Liver Oil
I've been taking 1 TBS. of cod liver oil daily for the past 2 weeks and I've seen results. I used to have bumps on the backs of my upper arms, I heard somewherea while ago that they could be caused by poor nutrition and/or vitamin deficiency. I don't remember the specifics, but if anybody knows, could you share w/ me please. Anyway, in an effort to overhaul my diet, I started with the cod liver oil and drinking a glass of raw milk every night.
Both of these things have been a huge step for me since I don't really like milk and hate seafood (which is another thing I'm working on - but I did eat a few shrimp last night). I've found a method of taking the cod liver oil that I can deal with. I also think the oil is helping to keep my appetite better controlled.
So, I just thought I would share. I feel like this is a real accomplishment for me and I'm so glad that there are actual results too!

I was actually going to post about CLO today as well. I give it to my kids and am so happy w/it.
But, how safe is it; ie. mercury levels of Cod?:scratch
ANyone have any idea?

I just went a-hunting and found this info:
Cod is listed as a fish with lower levels of mercury. Also, I think the EPA recommends less than 8 oz. of high level mercury type fish (like tuna) per week for pregnant women. 1 Tbsp. = 1oz. so 1 Tbsp. per day would only be 7 oz. per week. And since cod isn't considered high mercury level fish, I think we are well covered.

:D
We like it!
Oh, I do switch to a plain Omega 3 fish oil in the summer, though. Love the CLO for the A & d in the winter.
ok, fighting over keyboard

I believe the mercury is removed from the oil some how.
I do know each batch is tested, so dont worry about mercury in your fish oils.

Be careful about overdosing- I took too much and got sick. My ND didn't tell me the amount so I thought more was better. It is high in Vit A and D, both fat-soluble vits. It depends on body weight how much you take. My dose is 1 tsp/day now... I was taking 2 T a day :eek, since I used to do that with flax oil.
More is not better...

I was just going to come here to search for anything on CLO, or start a thread if there was none. I'm glad that other people are using it. I've given CLO to my 15 month-old a few times now. I'm afraid of giving her too much because of the Vit. A&D. I mix it in with her O.J. she gulps it back, cause I rarely give her O.J. so she probably thinks that's what it tastes like. :LOL
I heard that because of the Vit. A,, CLO is really good at fighting fevers, and breaking colds. That's why I've been giving it to her.
i personally could not imagine eating it every day. :yuck

*Mamajaza* cod liver oil has so many health benefits, you should consider taking it yourself as a daily supplement. I hate fish and a few months ago I never would have considered taking it, but after reading so much about it, I decided to give it a try.
I have a little ritual that makes it OK. I pour out the oil into a little shot-glass-sized measuring cup. At the same time I pour a small glass of O.J. I take a breath, gulp the oil, then immediately gulp the O.J. I swish the O.J. around in my mouth to ensure that I will not taste the oil. It's really fine, no fish taste at all. I also make sure that if I burp afterward, I just let it out of my mouth without "tasting" it, IYKWIM (I know it sounds gross, but that stuff does repeat on you and I don't want to get that taste in my mouth at all).
HTH.
