well child visits?
Unsure where to put this...
What do they do at well child visits? We're expecting our first in a few weeks.
I know they weigh and measure, and usually give shots (which we're delaying). Anything else?
Does there reach a point where there's just no real reason to go? If I'm confident the baby's growing normally and don't have any concerns and dont' plan to give shots...do I *need* to take them to well child visits?

Answers:
They weigh, measure, give shots, and talk about which milestones have been hit and which ones should be coming up. They ask how they are sleeping and eating- often times giving unnecessary advice.
If you don't want to do those things, you don't NEED to go. I choose to go- just in case there might be something going on I'm not aware of and to have it documented I've been taking care of my kids. Also, I find those visits a great way to get to know the doc, so I'm more familiar with her if we do need to visit if there is an illness. I feel more like I know her and whether or not to trust her judgement in case of an illness.
If I only went for sick visits- I'd only see her a couple of times a year and I want to know my doc better than that.

Along with measurements and milestones, my DS’s doctor also checks his head, his hips, and listens to his heart and lungs.
