Is this a UTI?
Hi Ladies,
I am wondering if I have a UTI. It started a few days ago, felt much like the pain I feel with ovulation, just less localized, but still on one side. Yesterday and today it is a dull, achy pain in my lower abdomen (about where my bladder would be I suppose). It does not burn when I urinate - but does feel different somehow, like it is harder to pee - if that makes sense.
I was on antibiotics until a week or so ago for a breast abscess - could those antibiotics actually have lead to a UTI by disprupting the bacterial balance in my bladder? I've always heard of antibiotics causing digestive upsets for this reason, wondering if it could also influence the urinary tract?
I've got acidophilus caps - directions say one per day - would it be helpful to take more?
What is better, cranberry juice or the caps? Caps: How many to take? Juice: what is a good brand?
Anything else I should take - I don't have Vit C or zinc with me (on vacation) which is what I usually take when I think I'm coming down with something. Would these be helpful enough to be worth buying in this case?
Also, when is it serious enough to require medical attention - I am on vacation in Canada and was stupid enough not to look into my medical insurance before leaving the US. When I got the breast abscess it cost quite a bit to see the doc and get the RX because I had to pay cash. If I can handle this on my own I would like to, but I don't want to put my health at risk to save a little bit of money. sorry for all the questions, I really appreciate any input.
Jeanette

Jeanette No info on what to take, but just wanted to say that this is what my UTI feels like. I started having the pain in my lower abdomen on Sunday, went to the hospital and they couldn't find anything. The pain was really bad yesterday so I called my midwife and she had me go back into the hospital to be checked and they found the UTI. It doesn't feel like any other UTI I've had, but matches your description pretty well.
Good luck!

It could be. I always get the burning when I pee but some people don't. Buy a cranberry juice with no added sugar and dilute it with water. Don't eat anything with added sugar (feeds the bacteria) Acidophilus twice a day with a meal. Drink TONS of water. But first try one of those over the counter tests in case it shows positive and then you can go to the doctor.

THanks so much for the replies - for some reason MDC didn't email me about these posts, so I didn't think anyone had replied until today. I took Cranberry Capsules, as well as Acidopholius and drank and drank and drank. Took a few days, but symptoms cleared up! Glad to avoid ABX.
