Lyme Disease Questions-Any Advice?
Hi- I'm wondering if anyone has any advice here,My son had Lyme disease last year-(he was 10) very clear bulls eye rash,he didn't have any ilness till he started the antibiotics- then one night of nasty illness, then better,anyway-
yesterday I spotted a circular rash thing on his shoulder, about 6" across, just the red outline, fairly thin. So I took him to doc,who said,"it doesn't appear to be ringworm or anything else,it doesn't look like a bullseye, but we need to be safe and treat it."
So here I am with a prescrip for 21 days of ceftin,a low level antibiotic. I'm very afraid. I know this disease can get really bad without treatment, but this is the 2nd time he's had "atypical symptoms" --I've known others who have had Lyme for sure, and displayed none of the classic symptoms. I don't know if he has it for sure,if it's a new bite/infection,or if it's a recurrance from last year, and going to make him long term sick.
I am also very leery of almost a month on antibiotics!!!!!!!!! has anyone ever dealt with this? Any advice? Thanks

I have to be quick because it's late, I'll try to write more later. I'd do the antibiotics. I've had Lyme for 9 1/2 years. It took me 9 years to be DX'd. If the doctor hasn't already, have him run a Western Blot test. Then he will be able to tell if it's a possible new infection or old. I'll try to remember to write more tomorrow.

just to make you feel better, me and my sister both had lyme when we were little and treated with antibiotics... my sister is an herbalist now and treats most everything herbally, but still advises someone in your situation to go with the anti. good choice and good luck

They are probably all true. I will probably have problems for the rest of my life because I went so long untreated. I'm not a big fan of antibiotics, but in this case I feel they are necessary. Lyme can get into all your tissues and organs, including the CNS and the brain. It doesn't happen it most cases.....unless you are unlucky like me. :LOL Definitely give her the antibiotics. One month is nothing. I have to be on them for 1 1/2 - 2 years. :Puke

I hope she's feeling better soon and has no long lasting effects. :hugs
