I haven't given my 18 mo any vitamins. She started solids at 6 1/2 mo and is still nursing. Her iron levels were fine when tested at 12mo. I'm not worried about Vit D because it's a very sunny summer and we're fair skinned.
I suppose if dd didn't eat healthily, I might be inclined to start vitamins. But she eats a wide variety of foods - fruits, veges, grains, meat and yogurt, soy milk, cheese.
Just make sure your toddler gets enough iron and calcium rich foods. And limit the refined sugars which rob the body of nutrients. I often give dd a cereal made with oatmeal and ground lentils (for the iron) to which I add blackstrap molasses (iron) and bananas for flavor. She won't eat pieces of meat so I grind it up and hide it in her food. Beans are also wonderful toddler food - full protein, fibre and vitamins and minerals. My dd wouldn't eat them whole at first but loved them pureed. Now she likes them whole/squashed.
