Home remedies for possible sinus infection
I don't ever get sinus infections, but I suspect I might have one now. I am on day 10 of a nasty cold, and am still blowing a lot of colored gunk from my nose (sorry, TMI). Plus, my molars and jaw feel achy, which is what makes me suspect SI.
I really, really want to avoid antibiotics, and don't even want to haul myself off to the dr if I can deal with this myself. Thoughts? Is this something I should really have a dr look at, or can I see how things go with home treatments?

Try a vaporizer in your room. I use a rather strong one (I call it "industrial strength" :D ). I use Vicks vaporizer fluid in it when I get sick - that frees up my nose too.
Plus - eat fresh garlic, several times a day, 2-3 cloves (yes, you will not smell very plesant ;) )
Plus - eat a whole lemon a day (with skin and everything). Put as much honey or sugar on it as you want.
But do go to the doctor if you see this progress... Sometimes it's hard to get rid of infection using home remedies only.
I am sorry you are sick :grouphug

I have used the homeopathic remedy Kali. Bichrom. with success for what I suspected were sinus infections in the past (didn't get an "official" diagnosis from a doc). You mentioned all of the colorful gunk coming from your nose - exactly what color is it? Is it thick and either yellow, green, or yellow-green? If so, I'd definitely try the kali b.
Hope you feel better soon.

My dh has had sinus infections off and on for all of his adult life. He has finally found relief from using a neti pot.
A neti pot is this special little pot, like a small tea pot with a long, thin, tapering spout. You put warm salt water in it and pour the solution through your nose while leaning over a sink. It goes in one nostril and out the other. It really helps wash all the gunk and infection out so your body's own imune system can heal it.
It's also nice for allergies - washes the allergens right out.
It does take some getting use to. It helps to stay calm and breath evenly through your mouth while doing it.

I "third" the neti pot. I usually use it in the shower.
However, there ARE times when the neti pot alone isn't enough. I've been dealing with congestion for about a month now and I'm trying to figure out if it's the same infection or if I keep on getting sick again just as I'm almost better.
I wasn't able to use the neti pot for about 3 weeks when I sprained my wrist, so that may have contributed to the congestion and gunk not going away as fast as it normally would have.
