Any suggestions on how to make a child eat
Someone on a board I belong to has a son who just turned a year old.
She is a sweet person and has A adorable liitle boy but has no idea of what to do about this.
She still BF but he is showing no interest in food, at all.
His weigh and growth has stopped he is the same as he was in September. He has some other problems which I am not sure of all the details.
I do know he has rash from about 3 months on on his face, she elimatnated many things out if her diet but they have never found the cause.
They also found out the he is unable to see out of one eye.

The Dr she saw today is happy that she is still BF, but in order to make him eat she says to put food him front of him and deny him the breast until he eats. Sort of CIO except with food.
She is not sure how that is supposed to work and frankly neither am I.
But she is running out of options as his growth has stopped.
They are running tests but are not sure of the problem.
This is not a case of a toddler just missing a few meals here or there. He just won't eat at all. He does pretend to eat though
Any ideas, suggestions for her would be looked upon kindly. Any BTDT Moms would be great.

Yes, 3 things 1. ignore that Dr, Wrong wrong wrong. 2. Have the baby evaluated for SID and 3. See a ped allergist, kids will self limit foods they are allergic too. And that's what it sounds like.

My DS who will be 3 in just a few days is the same way. There could be alot of reasons he wont eat. For DS it is a combination of things from reflux, to a texture aversion to a control issue at times. As far as the face rash goes, DS had one from milk and still gets it when exposed to milk. It is a very hard thing to deal with especially when you know there isnt much you can really do. If her child is anything like mine, setting food in front of him and refusing to give him anything else until he eats, wont work. My son would rather starve than eat. He is on a formula still. I have tried takign it away for upwards of 12 hours at a time and he wont budge. All it does is make him cranky, sick, and dehydrated. When he does nibble on something it usually has a very strong flavor. When I can afford it we shop at Trader Joes for some snacks that are milk and egg free (food allergies), and they can last about a month for one single bag of chips, but I know that he will eat atleast one chip every now and then. I wish your friend luck and if she wants to talk you can pm me for my email addy.

Her son also seems to like things with a very strong flavor. Like pickles.

If he likes things like pickles. I would suggest giving him pickles! Always with a little something else on the side. I find with my kids, when they like something I give it to them and often they will wet their appetites that way and try out the other stuff too. Eating, in my opinion, must be dealt with very delicately. Really focussing on NOT making an issue out of it is vital. Good that he's nursing. For how long has his growing not progressed?
It's important to remember that growth in kids can really slow down when they become more mobile. You get so used to babies growing so much every month but when toddlerhood hits, it stops completely for a while and then they shoot up like little weeds.
I would also recommend a supplement like Floridix (I hope that's spelled right). It is liquid, so giving that along side a healthy snack including a pickle may help.
Does she keep a snack tray available? It can help to have a plate with crackers or banana slices out on the coffee table so it is interesting and the baby can grab at it at will. Makes a mess but it's worth it.
I'm sorry, I just noticed you did say in your post that baby hasn't grown since sept.
