Hyperthyroidism- over active thyroid- natural treatment?
My fiance went to the chiropractor the other day and she told him she thought he had a thyroid condition- it makes sense since he is 6'5 and only 140 pounds and fatigued all the time. I was wondering if there are any natural ways to treat this- even those that can be combined with allopathic medicine. Any info on this condition would be helpful.

Hyperthyroidism (or Graves Disease) is something you can detect through a blood test. If it is HYPERthyroidism (overactive thyroid), he would be quite the opposite of fatiqued. He'd be nervous and anxious all the time, and yes, he would probably be losing weight (and having frequent diarrhea). Sometimes the eyes bulge out. He should go to a Medical Doctor and get a blood test for it. Fatigue is usually a symptom of HYPOthyroidism (underactive thyroid ), as is weight gain and depression. I used to have hyperthyroidism and took Propylthyouracil for years to control it. Then I took wheat out of my diet and my thyroid levels went back to normal--no more toxic medicine for many yrs now. I've slowly reintroduced wheat but my thyroid is still fine. Some people have Celiac Disease (especially those from Irish/English blood) which causes hyperthyroidism from eating gluten (which wheat and other grains contain). I was tested for it but I don't have it. I don't think the chiropractor made an accurate diagnosis on your fiance .you can't really diagnose that w/o a blood test. So have him get a test.

I have hypOthyroidism and his symptoms sound like mine. The first blood test that I had done showed that nothing was wrong. The common blood test that is given for the thyroid is NOT comprehensive. Ask for the comprehensive thyroid screen.
Kelp is good for both hypo and hyper. It is high in nutrients and it cannot hurt to try it. Kelp contains iodine which the body must have for the thyroid to function. Kelp has made a world of difference for me.
I agree with pony on the dietary factors.
Good luck.

Thank you so much! The strange thing about him is that he is nervous/anxious almost all the time- can't sleep, etc- but recently he has also gotten fatigued as well- not sleepy just in pain everytime he tries to do something strenuous- the chiro said this may be a result of the thyroid problem going untreated for so long that he has no more fat left and his body is basically eating his muscles.
He is 6'5 and weights 140 pounds- used to weigh 170+
He is of Irish and English descent so maybe cutting out the wheat will help him a lot- I will definately have him try kelp too!
Thanks again!
