outbreak after using milk thistle?
Hello everyone!
I was clear for years (my first outbreak came after my body was overloaded with too many medications in my late teens). After a year of struggling and going to dermatologists, a chinese herbal therapist was the only one able to cure me.
Awhile ago I thought (for some dumb reason) it would be a good idea to start taking milk thistle. Almost immediately upon taking it my psoriasis exploded again. I stopped taking the crap, but my psoriasis has not left. :( Has anyone had a similar experiance? Someone told me its because the milk thistle detoxified my liver too quickly and the toxins had nowhere to go but through my skin..but I dont know, I dont really get how it works. I have ordered the counter poison chinese herbal pills (the CURED me within a week before-hopefully it will work again) but until then I dont know what to do. Has anyone else had a reaction like this to milk thistle after being clear for so long? :(

Sorry to hear you are having trouble. I wouldn't think milk thistle could cause you these problems, but there was somebody who reported an allergy to flax seed oil. I guess we are all different in that respect.
I sure hope the Chinese herbs help again.
Anyway, welcome to the forum!

Hi Mysecretcurse,
Welcome to the Board! Nice to meet you. I'm sorry to hear that you're going through such a rough time.
People can be allergic to just about anything (i.e., at least one person who posts here (her screen name is PTener) is allergic to camomile. That's the last thing that I would have suspected that someone could be allergic to. Here's a link to a post where she discusses her allergy ), so it's possible that you're allergic to milk thistle.
There could also be something else going on. It's possible that you are asymptomatic for some sort of infection and that it's only a coincidence that you're psoriasis flared when you took the milk thistle. More then a few people have posted here that either their psoriasis or their child's psoriasis was triggered by some some of infection. (Strep throat is the usual culprit, but just about any infection can trigger psoriasis.) To add insult to injury they also report that the psoriasis outbreak was the only sign that they had an infection. (I.E., They didn't have a sore throat or fever in the case of strep throat.) To further complicate things they also report that the psoriasis won't respond to treatment until the underlying infection is taken care of. Here's some links to some previous discussions:

I hope this helps.
Feel better!
Good luck. Keep us posted and please don't be a stranger.

Thanks for the input you guys!
Its funny, I have been experiancing a kinda sore throat these past few weeks..It makes me wonder if that could be the cause. Although Ive been outbreak free for years and have experianced many sore throats during that time..so I dunno. ANyways, now Im just waiting for my herbs to arrive and praying that they help. Ill read over those other threads that were posted. I appreciate the replies!
*edit* Just wanted to add- I dont have any medical insurance and i work as a pizza delivery driver so I dont really have any money to go get tested for strep. Im not sure what I should do.
