1. Take Flaxseed Oil (one tsp. daily), Zinc (30mg. daily), Vit. D (400 IU daily), Selenium (200 mcg. daily), Vit. E. (400 IU daily). It may take several months before you notice imprivement from these nutrients.
2. Undergo Colon, Liver, and Blood Detoxification
First use a formula to cleanse and detoxify the colon which contains all or most of the following: cape aloe, cascara sagrada, barberry root, senna, ginger root, African bird pepper, fennel. After a week on the aforementioned, you should then take a formula that detoxifies your colon which should contain most or all of the following: apple fruit pectin, slippery elm bark, bentonite clay, marshmallow root, fennel seed, willow charcoal, psyllium seeds/husks. A good colon cleansing and detoxification program should take about two to three weeks.
Then, to detox the liver and blood: milk thistle, dandelion, artichoke or beet leaf, and an herb called Picrorhiza kurroa root. Following liver detox, take a blood-cleansing formula that contains some or all of the following: red clover, burdock root, chaparral, periwinkle, goldenseal. This detox takes about two more weeks to complete.
3. Acupuncture (if the previous steps are not helpful or only give partial relief). Six or more treatments.
4. Bovine Cartilage if p is still not controlled. 10g. to 25g. daily, expect it to take one to three months to see benefits.
5. Apply topical Calcipotriol, Coal Tar, Capsaicin, Gotu Kola, or Glycyrrhetinic Acid. People respond differently to these short-term reliefs. Try these for one to three weeks.
6. Homeopathic Remedies. Sulphur, Graphites, Lycopodium, Arsenicum album. See a qualified homeopathist for guidelines.
Animal meats expecially make p worse, and a diet high in protein and low in fiber can also make p worse. Foods containing omega-3 fatty acids, especially cold-water fish (mackeral, salmon, tuna, cod, sardines, halibut, herring) are helpful.
Meditation: Anxiety and stress are major factors in precipitating p, so meditation is very beneficial. One study showed that using meditation with UV light heals skin four time faster than UV light alone.
Lifestyle factors, including cigarette smoking, alcohol use, and obesity, can all contribute to psoriasis."
Dr. Altshuler also incorporates conventional steroid creams and topical retinoid as well as prescriptions if all the above fail. He warns that the more potent drugs can cause liver fibrosis and has other toxic effects.
