I'm homeschooled now, but I did used to go to public school. I really can't remember ever being teased because of my psoriasis.

Yep, I was at a public beach once in NJ...and I was laying out in the sun, this guy walked past with his wife and kids, and said "ew wtf is wrong with that girl?" and kept walking as they were giggling and looking back. But never had problems in school, I guess maybe kids are more accepting too it, highschool kids also have acne so they are in the same boat in a way, Ive had people in school ask "hey is that a bug bite, or is that dry skin?" but they are never rude about it, just curious.

Some coworker last summer asked me if I brushed up poison ivy. I can't remmeber being picked on over my p, but that was in the past and over with.

Answers:
surprisingly enough... ive been "picked on" more by adults than i ever have by kids... Ive found kids/teens to be more accepting of it...

Answers:
Yeah, I've been teased about it. Unlike what alot of people said, the kids were worse for me. [My school has a lot of druggies though, mostly them]... I had one girl start talking to someone else saying "Oh my god is that scabies?!" to have the reply "yeah it's really nasty". Not the greatest thing for your self esteem! The adults haven't been too bad ... I just wish people would ask instead of staring though.

I have been teased multiple times by kids and adults because of my psoriasis.

Answers:
I've never been teased because no one really knows...I try to wear stuff that hides it. But I do get teased because I refuse to go swimming.

I can't remember ever being teased directly. Psoriasis started showing up during eighth grade, and in highschool, I was careful to keep it hidden. But, last school year, I taught kindergarteners for a Child Development class, and one little boy asked me why I had a 'big red spot' on my face.
I can't tell you how embarrassed I was. e.e
My aunt gav eme her psoriasis medicine, it works really well. When I find it, I'll post what it was called. Maybe you guys can look into it if nothing's working? Unfortunantly, I lost it when I cleaned my room of all things, and my big red spot came back with a vengeance. AND I've got senior pictures tomorrow.
Anyone else have trouble getting haircuts because of Psoriasis?

Answers:
I used to get it up at school by the lads. they said i had dandruff and were like backing away everytime i walked near them.
i sometimes get it from my sisters as well when i'm at home. i have scalp psoriasis so i can't help it when the white flakes fall out from my hair. my little sister shouted at me for like ten minutes because some fell out.

My dauughter and her friends have grown up with me and my p. and even when it's been really bad all over my face, all the kids were very excepting and never teased, or questioned me.
I remember being a student nurse in a crowded elevator once and one of my nurse colleagues kindly pointed out in front of everyone, how bad the p. was on my face - I could've died as everyone turned to look at me.
I found it hardest growing up as a teen but even at 37, it still doesn't get any easier for me.

Answers:
most people dont notice it but thats probably because i have my entire scalp covered with it so it goes right under my hair, but basically they dont notice because i spend my classes figuring out ways to scratch my head without causing a commotion and trying to keep people from noticing that im always covered with a bunch of little white flakes

I've never been teased, and I've never tried to hide it. I do get asked questions, some more sensitively than others. The 2 questions/comments people make about my P or psoriatic arthritis that bug me the most are when they make a big deal out of reacting to it ("Omigod, were you burned?!?! It looks so horrible!!!") and then try to offer suggestions of whatever treatment they read about 2 years ago in the National Enquirer. The other one is when someone finds out I have PsA (sometimes it's more visible than others), and then they say, "Oh, you're too young to have arthritis." Grrr. I know it's an opportunity to educate them, but still...grrr.

I was constantly teased through school because of my psoriasis. I always wore long sleeves and pants, but once I got into HS I just didn't care anymore. As a lower classman I got teased by the juniors and seniors and as an upperclassman I was teased by the freshmen and sophomores because they were freaked out. I ended up getting really depressed and turned suicidal but it's all behind me now.

I was never teased about it in high-school, or middle school. The closest thing to an insult I would get was "What happened to your hands?" Simple curiosity.
This one time though, while shopping at Wal-Mart (Getting Spider-Man on DVD if you must know, Tobey Maguire in spandex just does something to me) this bitch walks up behind me in line. She takes one look at my hands and literally yells "EWW!! YOURS HANDS ARE SO GROSS!!" And this was no teenager or child saying it. It was a grown woman in her thirties atleast. So, I spun around, told her to go **** herself and left to go find another cashier. I paid my stuff and left. I ran into her while exiting the store. I raised my hand and gave her the finger, right there, flat out in her face. It was such a great feeling.
You just can't take any crap from anyone!

My sisters tease me now and say stuff that really does hurt.
they say things like it's disgusting if they catch me scratching it or they keep saying that i'm molting. it's horrible.

I've never been made fun of to my face. My family makes fun of me when I use dermasmoothe and wear the shower cap for it...they call me a lunch lady and stuff. Once a told a kid about it when he said I had chicken pox and he said "ew". I've told a lot of other people and they don't care...I usually throw the "you can die from it...in rare cases". I always feel like people are making fun of me though.

Hey Nemo,
I would have thought reading through the posts that the poll results would have been more in favor of "not "than "yes ". Wow, was I surprized! I am sorry that things have not seemed to have gotten much beter than when I was a teen with p. :0(
But, at least you have a place like this to talk about it. When I was your ages ( btw, I am ancient ), we didn't have anything like the net or this site. So, glad to see you are all here and talking.

I've had P since I was 18, I'm now 39. I get crap about my skin all the time. I've been spit on, cussed out, called a f**n leper, physically attacked, been kicked out of public swimming pools, denied service at a hair salon and not been hired for jobs where I'd be dealing with the public. I hear, "Eeew, what happened to your skin?" or "Eeew is that poison ivy." From my kids classmates they think I have bruises all over me (my kids are in 2nd grade and kindergarten). Some people are just cruel :(

woah slowe sounds like what you need is a loooong bath and a short visit to the biteme thread, thank you for your input, it helps us deal

I wasn't exactly "teased," but no one said a single word to me in gym class for the whole 6 weeks that we had to do swimming.
And sometimes, the stares are worse than teasing in my opinion.
