Another alternative thread for those who BELIEVE diet plays a part...
Don't be offended, this is not the only psoriasis group I'm a part of. I'm a part of a yahoo group; this came in my e-mailbox today. I found especially interesting the parts on PA...

Great story.
PA is such a life-stealer. It is wonderful to hear about another success story.
Now I have to watch for more additives. I haven't been worrying about juices, as long as they are 100% juice.
I did stop taking Vitamin C awhile back, because I heard it fed candida. Who'da thought? I haven't had any 'other' illness besides P, so I haven't worried about needing C.
So I wonder what the best source of Vit C is - since bell peppers aren't OK either.

Jen the diet on the Yahoo group sounds almost Identical to the Fibro diet. The only difference being that no products containing salicilates, aloe or mint can be used in or on the body. Including shampoos, moisturizers and toothpaste.

Have you tried the slippery elm yet Rich? If the prednizone isn't working maybe the slippery Elm will make it better. We want you to stop hurting too. My dad had it on his feet and had a job where he was standing a lot. He drank a lot of whiskey when he got home at night. I'll bet I know why now.

Really??
MAAAAAANY years ago, I was seeing a gyn for chronic, recurrent vaginal yeast infections (I'd had what I now know to be flaring PA and has been prescribed both antibiotics AND steroids for a period of several years to treat the plethora of infections/inflammations). We'd tried EVERY treatment and I was tested out the wazoo, sent to specialists, etc. On the verge of starting me on a potent anti-fungal (that would put me at risk for liver damage), my VERY exasperated gyn just happened to come across a book at a store the day prior to my next appt. called, The Yeast Connection. Although highly skeptical, she purchased it and gave it to me when I came in, suggesting as a last resort that I read it and give the suggestions a shot -- very much a, "why not ... I doubt it'll work but can't hurt to give it a shot before we try this med" attitude.
For the first time in my life, I went into a health food store (I believe it was Whole Foods, in Dallas) and purchased the recommended supplements -- again, it's been many years (I was early 20's and am 40 now) but if I remember correctly, the recommendations were linseed oil, evening primrose, garlic, acidophilus, AND VITAMIN C. I must confess that I was as skeptical as my gyn and virtually ignored the dietary recommendations (eg, cut out sugar, bread, "simple" carbs). I DID take the supplements, though, and the vaginal yeast infections that I had experienced without respite FOR A SOLID YEAR+, ENDED. My gyn was shocked, needless to say! ;)
My memory may admittedly be extremely fuzzy after all these years but I would swear that Vitamin C WAS one of the things on the "to do" list ... so very surprised to read just the opposite!

it's controversial ! I know! I've been taking it too...lots of it! But maybe it's a clue for someone who is doing everythig else "right"
SOunds like you were on the right plan for candida, with all that garlic and acidophilus ;)
I actually posted the article because of the nightshade and diet in general stuff.

Jen, I probably should've added a little "disclaimer" -- my post above was directed solely to the comment re: Vitamin C being a no-no for yeast. Was just very surprised to read that as (again, if memory serves) that's contrary to the anti-yeast regimen that I followed. But, hey, the ol' memory ain't what it used to be (CRS syndrome?? hehe) and my recollection may or may not be reliable. :p
Admittedly, I didn't even look at the link you included above ... apologies if I've taken your thread waaaaaaay off-track ...

I am surprised too. I certainly have clung to Vit C in the past as a cure for the common cold. (Did I say cure?)
I think it worked for colds, too, but only if I used it in advance. I worked for the school district as an occupational therapist's assistant in a special needs pre-school, and I personally handled lots of little folk everyday. They get the most virulent forms.
I managed to make it through many an epidemic by taking 500 mgs of Vit C every day (during cold season). But if a sniffle snuck through, it was time to start on echinecea. I could decrease down-time by 80% that way. I am allergic to 90% of anti-biotics, so I had to have an avoidance program.
Somebody had to stay well enough to load the kiddos on the right bus.

OOOPS ... our posts crossed, Dulane!! :p
Along these same lines, the gyn who did part of my first surgery (gyn + urologist, working together on the same case) recommended that I take Vitamin C post-operatively to "assist in the healing process." Seems she also recommended magnesium, as well?? This is probably more appropriate for a different thread as I think I have read a discussion elsewhere about MD's who either recommend or sale supplements. I've had MANY who did so -- eg, urologists recommending cranberry and so on.

There is a non acidic Vit c- that is what I have found reccomended in the books I have come across-

Sounds like you're reacting to the chemicals in tap water. I have the same problem. You can call New Wave Enviro @ 1(800)592-8371 and purchase a shower filter for about $20. This should alleviate the problem. Good luck!
