Holistic remedies
I beg your pardon if a similar thread has already been started, but I am new to this site and the boards. Call me lazy, just plain stubborn or newly diagnosed, but I do not wish to be burdened with applying topical solutions for the rest of my life. I cannot accept that there is no way out, and am now considering some sort of holistic treatment.
All I've discovered on the Web are sites that appear less than credible and rather costly, such as some herbal treatment called Psoriaid. Can anyone attest to the effectiveness of holistic remedies?

sasparillo.....? I hope you aren't too lazy to read "CLEARING UP FROM PSORIASIS" it is a thread on how I got clear from this scourge of a disorder.
There are many paths to getting clear....the one you choose is up to you.....I would advise you check out all options and set your sites! ;)

Hello GitOverIt,
It seems we share the same mentality when it comes to the "no cure" line. Thankfully, and I'm knocking on wood as I type this, my symptoms don't seem nearly as severe as yours. I only started noticing reddish spots, or lesions as I later discovered they were called, a year or two ago, but since they were mild and few and far between, I paid them no heed. They eventually went away.
Last summer, I detected a spot on my forearm that simply would not budge. People began to notice it, and ask if I'd been cut, scraped or bitten by a bug. Embarrassed, I simply told them it was a bug bite. As I dwelled further on it, I noticed more of these buggers popping up on my legs and trunk, and finally decided to consult a dermatologist... not before researching the subject, though.
I browsed the Web sites dealing with excema and other skin afflictions, until I came across the foundation's page. I point and clicked on the descriptions of different types of psoriasis, and was horrified with what I saw, namely the pictures. Determined to not let this progress any further, I booked an appointment with the above-mentioned dermatologist, who somehow managed to fit me into his busy schedule.
After waiting nearly an hour, the dermatologist finally entered the room, looked at me for five minutes tops, gave me my diagnosis, and prescribed clobetasol propionate. I followed the directions and, after two weeks, the lesions I had applied the cream to had, in fact, cleared, though scarring was somewhat evident.
As I applied the cream, though, I noticed that more of these lesions seemed to pop up, and I found myself losing track of which ones I had applied the cream to for two weeks, and so on and so forth. Could this be mental, in that the more I think about it, the more they appear?
I gave up on the cream for a while to see what would happen, and after more and more lesions arrived, I went back on the stuff, though only applied it once a day. I now try to catch them as they form, when they start out as tiny red dots, but it's just so damned hard to keep track. That's why I've started trying to reserach holistic treatments. After reading the post you recommended, your method sounds more appealing by the minute. I know everybody differs in their physiology and physiological reactions, but I'm always willing to try the natural method as opposed to the pharmaceutical method. Like you said, look who's telling you the treatments and that there is no cure: our "friends" in the drug industry.
Judging from your personal experience, how should I go about this?

Most topical treatments lose their effectiveness after awhile. Sometimes quite quickly.
This common loss of effectiveness with topicals is known as "Tachyphylaxis."
I only recommend topical applications for moisturization purposes only, such as vaseline, olive oil or any good quality natural brand. Be careful of some lotions that you apply. They may contain chemicals that have an adverse effect. If you look for a natural brand, see if you can get something with some A, C and E in it.
The cause of your psoriasis has to be your focus. Not the symptoms.

Sasparillo.....I mapped out what I did to get rid of psoriasis in the "CLEARING " thread....there is also a shorter version in "CLEARING 2" which I will look for and bring to the forefront....
basically it is a good diet minus sugar, wheat and some dairy....but it is all in the threads...also where to get the slippery elm and American saffron tea.....Milk thistle is also important for a healthy liver......
there are orther threads on here as well called slippery elm etc.....
Good luck and keep in touch.

By the way, "sasparillo" is an interesting nick name for you, since I read in one book that the herb, sarsaparilla is supposed to be beneficial for psoriasis.
(I realise that your nick is spelled a little different, but I thought it was close enough and yours is the way most people pronounce it anyways.)
