Self treatment ?
I am new to all this and like many of you have been to numerous Drs and Derm. and I refuse to take any more drugs that affect my body with awful side affects and do nothing.
Has anyone heard of the self-treatment book Psoriasis Can Be Cured by Dr. Connelly? Is it a hoax or does it really work? Its about treating the cause NOT the effects - which is what I am interested in.
I havent scrolled thru all these email conversations so apologize fi this is a repetitive question.
Thanks

If someone tries to sell you a cure, forget it. They are trying to make money off you and sell you a bill of goods. There is no cure.
Now there are some things to do to minimize the use of RX. You have to make your decisions on how much to treat and with what. Sometimes the psoriasis makes those decisions for you, sometimes it lets you take your own path.
There is nothing wrong with a healthy lifestyle and healthy eating with P and PA but that may not actually help. Some people it might.
READ THE INFO ON THIS WEBSITE IN THE RESOURCES SECTION. Don't throw your money away with "cures".

Note from the Psoriasis Foundation Member Services Coordinator:
Dr. Robert E. Connolly, a chiropractor, has written a book called “Psoriasis Can Be Cured”. This book has been advertised through a variety of national media for the last several years as offering a “cure” for psoriasis. Dr. Connolly claims in this book that psoriasis is caused by abnormal liver function and inappropriate diet. He recommends a specific diet regimen to follow, including avoidance of certain foods, herbs and self-treatment of two neurophysiological areas. The book says people successfully used this method, however no documentation is provided in the book that the clearances were permanent, nor is there proof that any supposed clearance was due to Dr. Connolly's regimen.
The absence of scientific documentation of the book is critical in our opinion since psoriasis frequently clears or improves on its own. There is no scientifically-accepted evidence that the livers of psoriasis patients are dysfunctional, nor is there any scientific evidence that a specific diet will cause a remission of psoriasis. Numerous diets have been tried over the years with varied results, however to date no diet has been reported in the medical literature to provide consistent results for a large number of psoriasis patients.
The Psoriasis Foundation has heard from several of its members who have tried Dr. Connolly’s regimen stating that they either experienced no benefit or they experienced an initial improvement with a relapse. This would seem to indicate that, if the patients follow the regimen correctly, the regimen prescribed by Dr. Connolly is not a “cure”, at least for everybody. The Foundation, to date, has not heard from anyone who has used Dr. Connolly’s regimen and experienced any long-term remission.

Donnasue,
Welcome to the board. You've come to the perfect ploace to get accurate information and sincere support.:)
Eve-Maridy, thank you so much for the informative post. I am so sick of hearing about different diets that will cure p. They don't, and won't. While I agree that a healthy weight and diet are critical to maintaining one's best overall health, these are not the factors that will lead to a cure of psoriasis.
My Dad, a lifetime veteran of p now in his 70's says that he can guarantee he can prescribe anyone with p a diet that will cause their p to disappear as long as they are on it. His diet is simply to eat less than 50% of the calories needed to maintain health and current weight. He also suggests cutting out all vegtables and fruits as an aid to speedy results.
I call it his concentration camp diet. Works every single time. Not everyone can survive it, as we have learned historically.
I am not joking. I mean no offense to haulocaust victims, I am just attempting to illustrate this point in graphic detail.
I would encourage you to do some research on all treatments available, and then return with any questions, We are all happy to help.

The only proven treatment that is "non-medical" is salt water soaks and lots of sunlight, and perhaps through in some coal tar along the way. Diet has helped my p none over the years and I have tried many. It's my understanding, based on discussions that I have had with various doctors, that diet can only help if you have a p flares from a particular food in your diet. Thus the only way to discover that occurence would be through trial and error, which could take many years to do successfully. Of course we don't have to diet for our p, we could do it for various health reasons.....lower colesterol or blood pressure..ect....and if the p starts to look better that would be an added bonus to the overall health issues that PJ expressed.
