I feel beyond weird doing this but I might as well give it a try. I have Psoriasis on my elbows - only. I had it since I was 7, I guess I "inherited" it from my father. Right now I`m 16. I`ve tried several treatments, I`ve done the steroids - worked for like 2 weeks. I`ve tried different ointments, but it`s hard sticking with it, especially with a hectic schedule. So *sigh*, I`m feeling crappy about it all. I know there`s no cure, and I know that people have it worse, but it`s still hard. BTW anyone from IL?

Sorry you're feeling kind of down. Not to down play your p, but you don't know what I would give to have p just on my elbows. The down side being that the elbows and the knees are the hardest areas to treat. There is a steriod tape called Cordran tape that you put on like a bandaid, leave it on overnight and it takes the scales right off. In the AM you can apply dovonex to limit the steriod use since cordran tape is so good at descaling the lesions.

Just a note from a mother of a 15 year old daughter with P...

It is great to see you take the initiative of entering the message support board..My daughter has yet to be so brave. Right now it seems to be my job, to keep her up to date with the latest support out there and any recommendations.
There have been many nights that my daughter has fallen asleep while I am helping apply her ointments and such. I don't envy the hectic schedule of you teens....and school is just about to start again.....hello to soccer, choir and plays for us ....not to mention, homework, exams and the rest of the stuff.......
One of our goals is just to get a jump on the redness and spots every now and again. We have had so/so results with steroids too and had to move to the next level with them..She has also gone through many heartbreaking and embarassing days when her skin acts up. Don't tell Children's Services, but I let her stay home from school when she is having a really bad day......
On a brighter note though, she stll is actively "dating"( I know that is an old fashioned "MOM -word") and hanging out with her friends... and is going on Friday to two separate events, with two differnt guys....some Band thing in Philly during the day on Friday and in the evening, Christina and Justin in Jersey.
I'll let her know the support of other teens is here for her. And again, good luck and good health, and good skin days wished to you.....

Welcome to the boards! I myself have had p since age 5 and I am now 21. It's rough. some days are good and some days are bad, but you just gotta learn to smile and realize things could be worse. I happen to be from chicago, myself! If you read this soon enough, you should check into going to the NPF convention being held in Shaumburg this Weekend. I am sure there will be plenty of people for you to meet and talk to there. Or if not this board is just as good, filled with great people to talk to.

Thanks for replying. It means a lot. I have been talking with my family doctor to see if I would be able to try other steroids, but from what he said, my "system" is too weak, and that the steroids might weaken my immune system. I don`t know if it`s true or not. However recently I found a new ointment, it`s called "Egyptian Magic" it`s all organic, and I`ve tried it for 3 days, it literally made it disappear. But like with other medication you have to use it over and over again.
Bella, by any chance do you know where in Schaumburg the convention will be going on? I`ll be there on Sunday, if it`s close to where I`ll be, I`ll try to stop by.

You can find the exact address on the homepage of this site, but it is being held at the Hyatt in schaumburg right down the street from Woodfield mall on golf road. If i am not mistaken it is between the mall and Ikea.

I have p on my elbows and every few night I put vaseline on them or a gob of lotion and wrap them in plastic wrap ...I cut the bottom out of a pair of socks and put them on to hold it in place and go to bed...
The next morning I unwrap and shower and the flakes rub right off.... Try it you will be amazed how well it works!

I guess this is as good of a place to start as any...
Hi everybody, I am new here too. My name is Lindsay, I am 16 and I was born with p. Thank God my Mom has it too so she wasn't freaked out when she saw her baby covered with p. She felt guilty though. She doesn't think that way no more, but I can tell it still breaks her heart to see the p on me.
We have been members since I was little, but we just got a pc a couple of weeks ago. I was so stoked to find the boards. Now I can hang with others who have p!
Looks like I missed a conference...did anybody here go? Was there stuff just us or was it sitting in with the adults?
