Chances are things won't be as bad as you think. People tent to be more understanding and open at the college age and up. In high school and below the kids tend to be more focused on appearence and put all feelings and emotions aside. The important think is to be yourself and if you feel comfortable be upfront about your psoriasis. People tend to be less judgmental and more understanding when they know the story. And who knows if you put out a good effort maybe you can gain control of the psoriasis before school starts.

When I went away to college I found that my roommate was encouraging and understanding. Most other people did not care. College "kids" are more curious then anybody else, so if someone asks, it is not because they want to be mean, but because they want to understand. The key is for you to accept it and know as much as you can about it so when you have to teach others, you will be able to. I found that once I accepted it and knew what it was, I had no problem talking about it with others. I think that most people who you will meet will have outgrown making fun of people and asking questions just to get you upset.
Good luck.

I did this too!!!! I really, really wanted to go out of state for college. My parental units made me stay in state for my first year, then I moved on my second. I have & had p pretty bad & totally noticable.
I can tell you, for the first couple of weeks it will be bad, but then it does get better. Once people know, they really don't sweat it to much.
If you would like to talk more personally about my experiences & your concerns - pm me. I could tell you some really funny stories that need not be known by all who frequent this board.

I am a sophmore in college now and I remeber being scared of what people would think, even though my p isn't 'severe'. What I have learned is what many people have already posted...that people in college and above don't care as much about physical appearance..and I know that all of the people I have explained my p to have been very understanding...I have made many new friends since I've been away at college and none of them judge me for my p. Good luck starting at your new school.
