Healing skin before my eyes!!!
Since I have stopped taking the enbrel injections, I have decided to go the super healthy route. I have stopped eating all meat and dairy products. I quit smoking (3 weeks and 2 days) and started taking daily vitamins and 5 tumeric pills a day. Also I took Torontos advice and started bathing in baking soda and usind the zinc oxide lotion. 2 weeks into this routine and my skin is flake free and the white spots are slowly blending in with the rest of my skin.I can't believe that this is happening. It's been 4 years since I have had a remission, I think I'm about due. I'll keep everyone posted on the results.

Sweet story! I just asked my derm yesterday if I could take enbrel and she dragged her heals (cheapass HMO type coverage) and pushed for MTX, Soriatane, and Amevive. I asked why not enbrel stating that all the users of enbrel on these boards show such incredible success while the other drugs, especially soriatane, show tons of side effects from users on this board.
She tried explaining to me how the drugs work (she was wrong), and ommitted the liver biopsy for MTX, the 12 shots and 12 blood tests for another, and the neverending side effects of soriatane. She even ignored my comment that my triglicerides were too high for soriatane. She's pretty much a waste of space in my hospital. It sucks knowing more about your skin condition than the doctor you should trust to know more about it. She didn't even know the FDA approved enbrel for Psoriasis. She laughed at my comment about pulse dye laser treatment saying its only for hair removal!
Anyway, just venting. Wanting to try enbrel. Tell us how it goes!

I had to stop using Enrel due to side affects. It was making me get strong headaches and sick to my stomach. My new way is much better. The only problem I have is with the Tumeric, I can't swallow pills so I have to break them open and put them in with my tea. But I'll survive!!!

Mandy,
Good to see someone having success by not going the prescription route. After reading numerous posts here I started taking salt baths, consuming Tumeric, and doing the Zinc Oxide. Too soon to tell if this route is successful. I have set Saturday as my "quit day" for smoking.
At any rate, keep us posted on your progress. It sounds good so far.

Hi Mandy
Congrats on the health route, hope it continues to be successful, you'll be a bit crowded with the rest of us jumping in on your band wagon! LOL!
Just a question...why did you stop the enbrel? No results? Do you think that the health route is more successful because of the enbrel? What is Tumeric and where do you get it? Okay so maybe more than "a" question, sorry :)
Thanks and Congrats again!

Cindy,
I stopped using Enbrel because I was getting really sick with really bad headaches. I decided to go the healthy route after I read a tread about what triggers your P and remembered that when I was 17, 18, and 19 I was vegan and my skin was clear all 3 years. I don't know why I started eating meat again, but it is time to see if it works again. Tumeric is herbal immune system pill. If you type in tumeric under search, you will find what it is, why it is used and who on this forum uses it. I bought my bottle of tumeric from gnc for $7. Hope this helps!!

Sometimes I think that it is better to go the non-drug route. I'm a 30 yr old woman and have been dealing with this stuff since I was 20 and believe me I have tried everything from light treatment to topical steriods and nothing worked as well as changing my diet, reducing stress levels(as much as humanly possible) and taking OTC herbs. My mother's boss has been living with psoriasis for 40 yrs and take a daily dose of Evening Primrose, Selenium, Chromium, Vit E and Echincae(SP). She gave me the low down on that when I had my first outbreak so I tried it and it worked out great and have been using it ever since...not so much during non-flare ups. It might not work for everyone b/c everyone body's chemistry is different but I thought I would share b/c we are always looking for relief...
Gooooood luck

I agree with the natural route. Along with my theory that I posted in:
This is a hard disease, I also mentioned that vitamins and supplements work. A multi-vitamin, chromium piccolinate, primrose oil, flax oil, cranberry extract, vitamin C and E, are also a huge part of the fact that I am now in remission! I couldn't agree more with the natural path, but you must be methodical and dedicated to see improvement, you can't just take them when you feel like it.
