Tumeric/Curcumin an anti-inflammatory??
Hello all,
I've been reading on the posts that tumeric/curcumin is a very good anti-inflammatory. I have always thought that as Psoriasis sufferers we should stay away from hot spices/food as this would aggrevate the problem.
Is there something special about this spice that is the exception to the rule? Has anyone had success with using tumeric in particular and if so how have you taken it?
Thanks in advance
Alan

Hi Alan I found some old threads on curcumin/turmeric (they are the same plant/herb)
you might want to do a search on either word in the search box above! or even in google...it has been found now to be helping Alzheimers and even PsA
people.....and many more...probably because it is a good anti inflammatory and all the diseases are being found to be inflammatory!

I read this article that was posted about it on another board.
http://uanews.org/cgi-bin/WebObject...ArticleID=13301It's a really large amount that they're talking about in the study. Something like 40x as much as is in the Indian daily diet. But that's why they have supplements!

I take two capsules (you can take more but adjust slowly) of 900 mg's with Bioperine added to the formula....this gives the curcumin 2000% more absorbability....I have read that it is hard to get the curcumin to get absorbed so I think it might be wise to make sure you buy the brand with piperine (black pepper plant)
Read this before taking as it may also make any meds you are on more potent?
I take mine only with vitamins....the only meds I take are Armour thyroid, and those are always taken alone with a 1/2 hour waiting period before eating or taking supplements.

Sally, as I told you privately, I want to start taking Curcumin.
How does this one look to you? It has bioperine in it. Is there any reason why I should not get this one? Thanks.

I am taking this for psoriasis. I do not have PA.
Answers:
Yes that looks good ...I compared to the Swanson brand and they were close in amounts...Swanson gave mg's for 1 cap and the one you gave was for 2 caps....they are both good...
Turmeric is good for inflammation whether it is psoriasis, PA, diabetes etc!

how many mg's for 1 cap from Swanson, Sally?

Also, is this a good price? I have to look around some more before making a purchase.
Also, Sally, you told me you take curcumin AND curcumin complex. The brand I showed you says "complex" in the name. Is that not regular curcumin?
Answers:
THE COMPLEX MEANS IT HAS THE BIOPERINE IN IT (THE PEPPERPLANT) ooops!!!! sorry caps were on!!!
you can compare the two by checking how many pills each brand calls for and the amt shown under ingredients, plus how many in the bottle!
this brand gives info on 1 pill

this pill gives info on 2 pills

Oh ok. I thought you took curcumin AND curcumin complex. But it's the same thing, except complex has biopereine.
So it looks like I will buy that one and take 2 of those a day!
I take this on a full stomach, after meals, correct?
In another thread, you posted this:
"Caution
Do not take more than 15 mg of BioperineŽ per day. Do not use BioperineŽ without physician supervision since it may increase blood levels of prescription medications. Do not take if you have a biliary tract obstruction. High doses of curcumin on an empty stomach may cause stomach ulcers. Do not take with anticancer drugs."
Don't take more than 15mg of Bioperine per day? You're not referring to Curcumin with Bioperine? I'm confused with that line.
Answers:
I suspect that they want you to take it with meals to avoid any stomach irritation. One 900 mg pill is not excessive. But curcumin has the best anti-inflammatory action on an empty stomach.
I would want to check that with your medical professional tho. I take mine in between meals...but never first thing in the AM. I eat and then wait an hour or so.
That makes for some hard timing issues. You might wind up taking a baggy of supplements to work, and that is always a conversation starter around the water tank.
